Growing L. Reuteri

Growing your own L. reuteri culture offers several potential benefits, particularly for gut health and overall wellness. Here are some key advantages:

Improved Gut Health: L. reuteri can help maintain a balanced gut microbiota, reduce harmful pathogens, and alleviate issues like constipation, diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) by producing antimicrobial compounds like reuterin.

Enhanced Immunity: This probiotic may strengthen the intestinal barrier and modulate immune responses, reducing inflammation and supporting the body’s defense against infections.

Digestive Support: It can aid in managing gastrointestinal conditions, including reducing the side effects of treatments for Helicobacter pylori infections, which cause stomach ulcers.

Potential Mental Health Benefits: L. reuteri may influence the gut-brain axis, potentially improving mood, reducing stress, and increasing oxytocin levels, often referred to as the “love hormone.”

Nutritional Boost: Home-cultured L. reuteri can enhance the absorption of nutrients like folate and vitamin B12, supporting red blood cell formation and neurological health.

Cost-Effective and Accessible: Growing your own culture at home with simple ingredients (like milk and prebiotic fiber) is an affordable way to obtain high bacterial counts compared to commercial supplements.

Customizable Health Benefits: Different strains (e.g., DSM 17938 for colic or ATCC PTA 6475 for anti-inflammatory effects) can be cultivated to target specific health needs.

Note that individual results may vary, and consulting a healthcare professional is advised, especially for those with compromised immune systems or specific medical conditions.

Here is how to make the culture from Dr. Berg & Dr. William Davis. Once you make your first batch, save a couple of tablespoons of culture to use in the next batch. The next batch you will make , instead of using MyReuteri pill, you will make with the saved culture with 1 quart of half & half and only 1 tablespoon of Inulin. This will make a full complete curds(culture) with no liquids(whey). Once the batch is put in the culture maker, set the temp to 100 degrees for 36 hours. Put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and it is ready to eat. I consume this at night time like this: around 4 oz of culture with honey and frozen berries.
